All-Time Amazon Favorites

beauty, fashion, makeup, travel

Oh, Amazon…the convenience, the never-ending supply of goodies to search for, the list goes on and on. Below you will find my All-Time Amazon Favorites and why I love them:

  1. A Million Sloths Coloring Book
    • This has been so much fun to relax with these past few weeks. Every page is cuter than the last!
  2. Stainless Steel Gold Band
    • I purchased this on sale a few weeks ago for about $5 (my best Amazon tip is to try and save things in your Wish List so you can be alerted when there is a price fluctuation, as they are constantly changing their prices), and I love it! I’m allergic to so many different types of metals and this one has given me no problems thus far.
  3. Travel Wallet
    • So, so great for travel! I believe this was a recommendation from Alyson Haley and I snapped it up before our honeymoon. The compartment for the pen and all of the receipt pockets are so handy!
  4. Record Player
    • This was Tyler’s Christmas gift two years ago and we have absolutely loved it! This was a recommendation from my friend Matt, who always has this version, and he is the one person you always must trust on a technical purchase of any kind!
  5. Black Sherpa Jacket
    • I bought this during the teddy bear jacket craze about a year ago and haven’t looked back since. So, so comfy!
  6. Makeup Storage Tower
    • I have two of these and they are so worth it. Clean quite easily as well!
  7. Louis Vuitton Neverfull Tote Insert
    • If you have a Neverfull, this insert is a MUST HAVE. So helpful for organization in such a gigantic bag.
  8. Collapsible Water Bottles
    • We used these while hiking in Iceland and they were a game changer. So convenient and took up no space in our suitcases.
  9. Bioderma Micellar Water
    • While you can purchase Bioderma a lot of different places, Amazon is my favorite and easiest.
  10. Camera Backpack
    • Another purchase for hiking in Iceland, this backpack is so nice and protected my camera so well (another Alyson Haley recommendation). My only complaint is that it doesn’t have a compartment to hold a water bottle on the side.
  11. Power Adapter
    • Alyson Haley recommendations strike again on this one. 🙂 We have traveled with this every time we have gone abroad and it works so well, especially with the multiple USB ports!
  12. Mirrored Sunglasses
    • Bought these for our Vegas trip (travel guide coming this week!), and have gotten so many compliments on them!
  13. Black Sunglasses
    • A blogger favorite, these designer dupe sunglasses are my absolute favorites! I’ve got a big head and lots of hair, so the size of these do not intimidate me haha!
  14. Grey Nightgown
    • I hadn’t owned a nightgown in years and decided to pick this up on a whim to wear as cute PJs to a bachelorette party. I’m OBSESSED! It is so soft and comfortable!
  15. Facial Razors
    • These were a Jaclyn Hill recommendation and I love them! I don’t use them on my entire face, just between my eyebrows, above my eyebrows and on my upper lip.
  16. Pearl & Acrylic Hair Clips
    • So fun, so trendy!
  17. File Folder
    • I am a self-proclaimed paper hoarder and this helps keep all of my mess somewhat organized!
  18. Pearl Headbands
    • I love the pearl headband trend so much that I wear one at least 3 days a week now. So chic for work while keeping my hair out of my face!
  19. Silver Cleaning Wipes
    • Honestly, these are my #1 favorite Amazon purchase of all-time. I had no idea they existed until I saw someone recommended them on Instagram and they have brought all of my sterling silver jewelry back to life! I hadn’t been able to wear one James Avery bracelet in particular for years because the oxidization on it was so bad, but now it looks brand new!
  20. Clothing Rack
    • I have a cloffice in our current house since we are low on closet space, so this clothing rack was a must-have! This thing is loaded down with so much stuff and is crazy sturdy.
  21. SPF Moisturizer
    • Amazon is my favorite place to buy this cult-favorite moisturizer I mentioned in my skincare post a few weeks ago!
  22. C Initial Necklace
    • This is a dupe for a much more expensive, discontinued designer necklace and is one of my favorite jewelry pieces that I own.
  23. Jewelry Cleaner Pen
    • I LOVE this jewelry cleaner pen! So easy to use and convenient to travel with.
  24. Laptop Backpack
    • I desperately needed a new laptop backpack for work and this one has been wonderful so far. So many compartments, a great laptop protection sleeve and very sleek.
  25. Fabric Defuzzer
    • Another example of a product that I never knew existed, this recommendation from Katey McFarlan Hellman is MAGICAL. I’ve used it on comforters, leggings, ottomans, you name it!
  26. Missha BB Cream
    • And last, but not least, this Missha BB Cream. This is one of the best tinted moisturizers I have ever used, c/o Jessica Braun.

Home Decor We Love

Hey All You Cool Cats and Kittens,

(Sorry y’all, I don’t talk to anybody in person besides Tyler and couldn’t bring myself to do it on a conference call yesterday).

Today we’re talking all things home decor. While I’m most certainly not ready to do a full home tour any time soon, I thought it would be fun to put together a list of home decor that we love, with a glimpse of some of the pieces that I stare at day in and day out as I am one of the lucky people who gets to work from home right now (for those of you who are going into work, thank you for all that you are doing). 🙂 A lot of our pieces are super budget friendly or amazing gifts from family because, well, we’re young and we knew we would be moving around a lot, but they have served us so well! Below is a look at some of our favorite pieces, and for anything I couldn’t find everything online, I tried to link similar versions:

What I Miss the Most During COVID-19

About Me

Hi sweet friends,

How are you doing? In this time of uncertainty and fear, I know we are all feeling worn down, confused and scared. Also, for those who are serving on the front lines in so many different capacities from medicine to transportation to hospitality, we know that you are all weary beyond compare and can’t thank you enough for all that you have done and will continue to do.

With that being said, I personally am feeling pretty overwhelmed in a lot of ways, while also trying to steer my thoughts and prayers toward positivity and to focus on trusting in the Lord more than ever during this time. However, I am also feeling quite uninspired and torn at the moment, as a part of me is wanting to post travel guides and makeup tutorials to help bring some lightness and distraction to your feeds and timelines, while another part of me is acutely aware that some people are currently undergoing massive financial blows and are doing all that they can to make it through the next day and make ends meet. Moreover, I know there is an ever-pressing feeling of frustration and sadness for so many people about not being able to celebrate Easter in-person with their loved ones this coming weekend.

As such, I needed to take a step back today and just talk about what is on my heart, while also wanting to know more about what is on your hearts and minds as well. Over the past few days, I’ve seen a bunch of posts on social media about the “10 most unpopular opinions” people have about things that the majority of society are perceived to like. While quite a few of these posts have made me laugh, I thought I would try a bit of a positive spin on this topic and discuss some things that I am the most excited about doing once things go back to as normal as they possibly can to show a bit of solidarity:

  1. HUGS – I am not much of a touchy feely person, but I love me a good hug, especially when greeting someone. While I can hug Tyler (which I am extremely grateful for), I can’t wait to hug family and friends as soon as possible.
  2. Going out to eat – I know we’ve all seen the memes, but I truly have established that my #1 hobby is going out to eat or to get drinks. I can’t wait to be able to laugh, catch up and hang out with all of my favorite people over appetizers and Moscow Mules.
  3. Browsing a store – The TJ Maxx and Target withdrawals are REAL y’all. There is something so relaxing to me about browsing a store on my own, even if I don’t buy anything, so I’m ready to have that time back, as silly as it sounds.
  4. Movie theaters – Tyler and I love going to the movies, so we can’t wait to go in, get us some Sour Patch Kids, Bunch-a-Crunch, and a White Cherry Icee, then settle in to see a good movie.
  5. Travel, of any kind – Y’all, I want to get on an airplane so badly. I can’t wait to visit both places that I love and new places that I’ve wanted to discover, with a fresh appreciation for how blessed we are to be able to travel.
  6. Nail and hair salons – My nails are a catastrophe after having to finally soak off my dip polish and need professional intervention ASAP. Also, this blonde hair of mine is going to need some serious maintenance from my hair angel, Rende Baker, once all things are said and done.

What are you looking forward to the most post-quarantine? And what are you doing to keep yourselves preoccupied? I’ve personally got a sloth coloring book coming my way on Thursday that I couldn’t be more excited about if I tried!

Keep your chins up, lean into Him, and please let me know if there is anything that I can be praying about for you.

Chicago Travel Guide

travel

Chicago, Illinois, is my favorite big city in the U.S. After spending 3 days in the city in May of last year with my amazing best friend, Amanda, this city has forever found a place inside my heart. Below is a look at where we stayed, what we ate, and what we experienced:

Day 1: We check in at The Drake hotel, hit up Kanela Breakfast Club for brunch, take a stroll past Northwestern‘s downtown campus, then get ready to head down to our Architectural River Cruise.

Architectural River Cruise: The cruise is a DREAM and is a must for your trip to Chicago. You learn so much about the city in such a short amount of time and experience spectacular view after spectacular view.

After walking past the Centennial Fountain, we head to the Navy Pier, then hop a ride to Wrigley Field and catch the last few innings of the game at the Brickhouse Tavern. From Wrigley, we head to Eataly, which was easily one of the best meal experiences I have ever had. The Aperol Spritzes were divine, the pasta beyond compare, and the dessert bar was the perfect icing on the cake. Following dinner, we headed to the Green Mill Cocktail Lounge, Al Capone’s old haunt, which was so neat, but packed to the brim on a Saturday night (make sure you have cash!).

Day 2: We’re up early and ready to head to the Art Institute of Chicago as soon as it opens! We spent hours marveling at the incredible collection. It was, in my opinion, the best museum I have ever been to! (Sorry for the art spam, but I’m obviously obsessed!).

After the art institute, we headed to Giordano’s for a late lunch, then did some shopping on Michigan Avenue, with Stan’s Donuts & Coffee in hand. Before heading to the museum, we had checked out of The Drake and into the Palmer House hotel, so we went and dropped off our shopping bags, freshened up, then headed out for a night on the town. We wandered around the lobby to see all of the amazing history of the hotel, then Ubered to the J. Parker rooftop bar for appetizers and drinks.

Day 3: Our final day in the city! We head to open up the Field Museum, which was so, so cool and another amazing learning experience. We were lucky enough to see the Wildlife Photographer of the Year traveling exhibit from London’s Natural History Museum, which was 100% worth it and one of the best museum exhibits I have ever seen. If you ever have the chance to see this exhibit in any museum, we highly recommend!

We head to Cindy’s Rooftop after the Field Museum, where we saw some of the best views of the city while sipping our cocktails. We then wandered down to take our obligatory photos at The Bean, then walked down to the stunning Buckingham Fountain. Keeping up with the theme of getting our steps in, we walked back within the city center and headed to get some much deserved coffee and sweets at Goddess and the Baker before grabbing our bags and heading to the airport.

We also received these recommendations from some local friends that we made on what to do the next time we were in town:

The Signature Lounge at the 96th

DryHop Brewers

Best Intentions

Chicago Magic Lounge

Have you ever been to the Windy City? If so, let me know your recommendations in the comments below.

Favorite Skincare Products

beauty

Now that the majority of us are self-distancing and quarantining ourselves at home, there is no excuse for not upping our skincare routines. While I can personally admit that I have let mine slack lately and have just been cleansing, I am going to jump back on my moisturizer/eye cream/treatment train tonight. For context, I have extremely sensitive skin, rosacea, and have a history of severe, cystic acne. I also definitely have combination skin, being very oily in my t-zone, but also frequently having dry patches all over. Below you will find some of my all-time faves:

24 Hours in Paris

travel

During our honeymoon in 2018, we spent a very quick 24 hours in Paris. While there was so much we enjoyed, there is a lot that we would like to do-over, and hope to visit the city again with more time and less pressure. Below is a look at what we were able to do, as well as what we would like to do in the future:

We left St. Pancras International Station at 10:30 a.m. on the Eurostar headed to Paris! The journey is a little over two hours, extremely enjoyable and easy. We left all of our luggage besides our carry-ons at the Excess Baggage Company for 40 pounds to avoid lugging them all over Paris, which was definitely the way to go.

After reaching the city, we checked in to the Hotel Louvre Saint-Honore, which is within walking distance to the Musee du Louvre. After quickly dropping off our bags, we spent the rest of the day exploring the Louvre until it closed. We barely scratched the surface, but every recommendation you’ve read to avoid getting up close to the Mona Lisa are true.

The next morning, we were up brightly and early to head to a place I had dreamed about my entire life: the Louis Vuitton flagship store on the Champs Elysses. The experience in the this two-story, stunning store was better than I could have ever imagined. A review on the bag and wallet that I purchased will be coming soon, but I will cherish both pieces for the rest of my life.

After our shopping trip, we walked over to lunch at Laduree. The menu was fantastic, on top of the macaroon sampler that we partook in. The restaurant is beautiful and should definitely be one of your stops.

After lunch, we made the walk over the Seine to the Tower Eiffel. Since the tower was under construction, we just snapped a few pics and were on our way. After a quick Uber ride back to our hotel, we picked up our bags and headed back to the station to head to London.

London Travel Guide

travel

In February 2018, we went on our belated honeymoon to visit the two places I had dreamed about my entire life: London and Paris. After months of planning and research, we spent a total of eight days traveling, exploring and admiring these two incredible cities. Below is a look at what we did, what we loved, and what we want to do the next time we’re in my favorite city of London:

Day 1: We finally made it!

After traveling for over 24 hours from DFW to JFK, we finally landed at Heathrow. We took the Heathrow Express into the city for 44 pounds and after getting very quickly accustomed to the Tube, we got off at Victoria Station and walked to our first hotel, The Rubens at the Palace. The hotel was fantastic and I would HIGHLY recommend. With a great location, fabulous view of the Royal Mews and the friendliest staff, you will not go wrong with a stay at The Rubens. We dropped off our bags, stumbled over in a delirium to the Shake Shack in Nova Victoria (our first Shake Shack experience and it was everything we ever dreamed of), then went back and collapsed into a blissful slumber until the morning.

Day 2: Tower of London

We woke up bright and early to start our day and had breakfast at Sourced Market. I still dream of the custard muffin and mocha I had for two mornings in a row. Tyler and I also heard Leon Bridges’ “Home” as we sat and planned our day, officially stamping our seal of approval forever. We then went and got in line to be the first people into the Tower of London, and were actually able to see the Crown Jewels twice since we raced over there first. After exploring all the Tower has to offer, we then hopped on the train from London Euston to Watford Junction, then grabbed an Uber from the station to head to the Warner Brothers Studio Tour.

Day 2: Warner Bros. Studio Tour London

Easily our favorite part of the trip, the Warner Bros. Studio Tour – The Making of Harry Potter, was worth every penny. We loved every minute, the true Harry Potter fanatics that we are, and would pay to go all over again, even with it being our most expensive and touristy outing on the trip. We ate a quick lunch at the cafe inside, which was actually quite good, and then took photos and bought souvenirs to our hearts’ content.

Day 2: The British Museum

We finished the evening off after getting back into the city at the British Museum, as the museum stays open later on Fridays. Another must on our list, the museum is absolutely incredible and has so much more to offer than the few hours that were able to wander through it. We then capped off our crazy yet amazing day with dinner at Steak & Lobster.

Day 3: Windsor Castle

If I’m honest, I think touring Windsor Castle may have actually been my favorite part of the trip. After traveling from Paddington Station to Windsor & Eton Central (then back via Slough to Paddington), we stepped off into the beautiful Windsor Royal Station then hopped across the street to the castle. We learned so much, the Queen was at Windsor that day so the flags were flying proudly, and we were able to tour St. George’s Chapel only a few months before the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were married there, (and we also walked over the grave of King Henry VIII in the chapel aisle and I almost passed out from excitement). We then stopped into Jo Malone on our way back into the station and bought one of my two treasured souvenirs, a Peony & Blush Suede fragrance that reminds me of our trip every time I wear it, then headed back into the city to explore. We walked past Buckingham Palace, then went on to Knightsbridge to stop in to Harrods, grabbed a quick coffee, then drooled over the McLaren showroom. Headed back towards our hotel, we had dinner Sticks’n’Sushi, then finished off our evening at Vagabond people watching and trying many a different wine.

Day 4 and Day 5: PARIS! Stay tuned for Saturday’s post. 🙂

Day 6: Kensington Palace & Tea @ Sketch

After arriving back in London on the evening of our fifth day, we checked in to The Queen’s Gate Hotel in Kensington to try out a different part of the city. After dropping off our bags, we had an amazing dinner of fish & chips, a pint for Tyler and a Granny Smith cocktail for me, topped off with splitting a sticky toffee pudding and a cheesecake for dessert at Bumpkin. The next morning, we set off for our tour of Kensington Palace, where we once again learned so much on our tour, then went downstairs to see the beautiful, and quite emotional, exhibit dedicated to Princess Diana. After that, we went to Sketch, where we spent the entire afternoon at our Tea with Bubbles reservation, drinking champagne and copious amounts of delicious tea, while eating ourselves sick along the way. Another experience that was completely worth the money, but be prepared to book well in advance and to pay a pretty penny.

Day 7/8: Back home we go!

After getting ourselves and our bags on the Tube to Gatwick, we sit down for burgers at Jamie Oliver’s Diner in the airport and wait to head back to JFK, where we then stay for a few hours in a hotel in NYC, then back to La Guardia at the crack of dawn to head back to Texas.
